Somatic Perspectives on Psychotherapy is published by USABP.
The United States Association for Body Psychotherapy (USABP) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1996.
There are many approaches to somatic psychotherapy. This is an expansive field that draws from many eras and traditions. It encompasses the body-oriented psychotherapies developed by Wilhelm Reich and others, the American Dance Therapy tradition, the psychoanalytic field, the modern traditions of Humanistic, Existential, and Phenomenological psychology, as well as therapies based on current research in attachment, dissociation, and neuroscience.
The common point to the different modalities is that we see the mind revealed not only in relational styles, dreams, behaviors and cognitions... but also in neurophysiology, posture, gestures, movement, bodily tensions and more. In addition to incorporating the theories and methods of general psychology and psychotherapy, we also explore the therapeutic possibilities of somatic roads to the unconscious and healing.
Among other activities, USABP:
- organizes a conference.
- publishes a professional Journal.
